We Are Here

Hull is my home, and what would any person want from their home? Safety, comfort and a sense of belonging. I often ask myself do any of those really apply when there is a risk of flooding which could wipe out everything I have ever known in my home town

Our communities are being shut out of decisions, plans are biased towards big developers and aren’t as focused on flooding, sea level rise or the protection of nature as they need to be.

They are failing to protect us from high energy prices and poorly built homes, and allowing the destruction of our green spaces and favourite local buildings.

This needs to change.

WeAreHere is a campaign for a fairer planning system, which respects the views of local people and puts our homes at the top of the priority list. We have decades of experience in turning complex issues into stories that resonate with people, winning planning campaigns and reaching the corridors of power

We are supporting a number of communities across the country by offering free legal and planning advice and creating public artworks in the local area that help them tell their story.

We will be connecting, sharing and supporting - sign up to our mailing list and follow the #WeAreHere hashtag and follow us on social media for updates on the campaign.

#WeAreHere flood map

Visit our flood map, developed by the University of Manchester and Climate Just for #WeAreHere. It shows which areas are in flood zone 2 and 3, if and where there are flood defences in place, the flood risk from rivers and the sea, flood storage areas and if there are shoreline management plans. You can also leave comments and links on the map, which we’d love communities to do. Find out more about our flood map here.

We want to hear your story

We want to hear how you are affected by the climate crisis and help you tell your story to politicians and decision-makers - the people in power who most need to hear community stories.

My grandparents often spoke about the floods in Felixstowe where people lost their lives. The fear of when they would be next flooded remained with them till they passed. No one really understands what impact floods have on the communities whose families have seen total destruction and the mental torture of fear they face day in and day out.
