Community Climate Stewards
Postcards from the Edge
People protecting the places they love
In Hull, Lowestoft and Skegness, climate change is not an abstract future threat. It is already being felt through flooding, storms, rising seas, extreme weather and the quiet anxiety of not knowing what comes next.
But the future of these places should be decided by the people who live there.
Community Climate Stewards works with local people to explore what climate resilience means in real life: for homes, streets, green spaces, local food, public services, family life and the places people gather.
Through the campaign, communities will share what they see, what they know, what they fear, and what they hope can still be protected.
This is not about parachuting in with ready-made answers. It is about listening to local experience, valuing community knowledge and supporting people to shape the decisions being made around them.
Climate change can feel too big, too technical or too frightening to talk about. We want to make those conversations more human, more practical and more rooted in place.
Postcards from the Edge
A postcard is a small message from a real place. These postcards will share glimpses of life on the climate frontline: what people notice, what they love, what worries them, and what they want decision-makers to understand.
Stewardship
Stewardship means caring for a place for the people who live there now, and for those who will come after us.
Local knowledge
The people who live in a place understand it in ways that maps and models cannot always capture. Their knowledge should be at the heart of climate decisions.
Stewardship is not about owning a place. It is about caring for it
It asks us to look honestly at the challenges ahead, while also paying attention to the relationships, skills and imagination that already exist in our communities.
Community Climate Stewards will support local people to tell the story of their place, explore practical responses to climate risk, and build stronger connections between community action, local decision-making and long-term resilience.
