Cynefin

Cynefin is a welsh word that means ‘habitat’ in its closest proximation, a person’s habitat, belonging, familiarity and an intimate connection with place.
It’s a word that recognises that people are dependent (like any other living thing) on their environment and intrinsically part of it.
Imagine if we thought about the way in which the decisions we make as a society contribute to our Cynefin. What if Wales itself was treated legally as a Cynefin?
We want to play on the ideas of the connection between people and place, drawing on the Utopian tradition in planning to create a broader understanding of the word ‘Cynefin’ in the governance of places.
